Day 307: Bored Out of My Mind

The end of this deployment is fast approaching and if the haajis don’t get to then the boredom will. Nothing has been going on last week. Nothing this week. Nothing the next week.

It wasn’t until now that I really understood the latter half of war novels. I read Fallen Angels in high school and couldn’t wrap my head around why near the end it seemed like nothing was happening in the novel. Lots of stuff would go on in the first section of the novel because at that point, the deployment was new and interesting. After the six month point life drags by as a snail’s pace with nothing new. It’s the same old crap repeating itself like Ground Hog’s Day. At Least Bill Murry had a reset button so he could go out and have fun with no long term consequences. Here I just have a paycheck every two weeks with nothing interesting or different.
